Welcome to the Boroondara General Cemetery, commonly known as the Kew Cemetery. Only 8 kilometres east of Melbourne's CBD, Kew Cemetery is an operating cemetery designed in the tradition of the Victorian garden cemetery. Kew Cemetery celebrated its 160th anniversary in 2019. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in Victoria, with more than 80,000 burials to date.
We offer a range of burial and interment options. Currently, garden crypts are available for burial, and wall and garden positions for the interment of cremated remains. These are held in perpetuity. More information about memorialisation can be found by clicking here.

NewsSpringthorpe Memorial The Trust has been successful in its application for grant funding for $200,000 from Heritage Victoria to conserve the Springthorpe Memorial. We really appreciate this support and also the interest received from the community. The following poster (LINK) will provide a little information about the project. The required works will be staged and far exceed the grant monies received as the best stone conservators, glass conservators and architects have been appointed. The Trust is not able to spend its own funds on private memorials but you can donate if you wish to assist us. Donations through the Kew Historical Society are tax deductable. Cemetery Management Cemetery Opening Hours Our gates are open every day of the year between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm. Resumption of working bees: We are pleased to announce the resumption of the Friends of Boroondara (Kew) Cemetery working bees at the cemetery. The working bees are held on the first Saturday and the third Wednesday of each month from 10:00 am until around 3:00 pm if the weather is favourable. We invite anyone who is interested to join an enthusiastic team. Volunteers are welcome to join for as little or long as they please. Please note that Covid-19 distancing restrictions may apply. The location of the working bee within the 12 hectares of the cemetery will be marked with pink flags. You will find the working group if you follow the pink flags. All you need to bring is yourself, some gloves, a pair of secateurs and to wear sensible shoes. No special skills are required. If you are planning to stay you should bring your own lunch. The main gate will be open for vehicle access. |
